“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
– Martin Niemöller
What saddens me even more than what the UK has done to Tommy Robinson is that those with the largest platforms and the most power to draw attention to this travesty of justice are silent.
Stay silent, keep your head down and appease, appease, appease until it’s your words and your actions and your thoughts that are no longer deemed socially appropriate… and no one will be left to stand up for you, either.
Artists used to be warriors against tyranny.
Now they are instruments of it!
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
